I’ve been actively advertising my blog for approximately ten days now, and I’ve noticed most posters and commenters (here and elsewhere) are authors themselves. Great writers have blessed me with their readership, now it’s my turn to read what you write! In Readers’ Turn, you take on an assignment that I give you. It’s always short, and should be always interesting. Would you care to play a game?
Today’s assignment is to write a 100-words-or-less flash fiction about the following picture:

That’s Becker, from “The Tuscaloosa Oatmeal Explosion”. I’ll do the first one to get the ball rolling.
Becker thought about his to-do list, checking off his morning routine. “Eat, check. Pee, check. Poop, big check on the back porch. Sleep, gettin’ there.” He yawned and rubbed dirt out of his eyes with his front paws. The sun was warm on his nose, his whiskers picking up a cool winter breeze through the trees. “Now if only that sun were out of my way. Seems unusually bright today…”
Shreveport was never rebuilt after a nuclear warhead was mistakenly dropped on it. Becker never got that last nap in.

Hi diddle de de,
it’s a doggie’s life for me!
I’m sitting here by my tree,
waiting to bite a postman’s knee!
Hi diddle de ho,
what a way to go?
Some nasty infection will be my lot
and then the postie will have to be shot!
Hi diddle de de
will anyone be nice to me?

Dave, that’s almost exactly what I think runs through his mind every day. Good job!
